Dual Thank You Pages

Monday, May 19th, 2008

When you set something up like the dual order pages that I have, it’s necessary (most of the time) to have dual thank you pages. I suppose you could get away with just one (maybe), but I prefer to set things up individually.  That way there is no confusion for the customer as to exactly what they are getting.

Depending on how many products you are selling, or, actually, how many different zip files you have for those products, will depend on how long it takes you set up your thank you page / download page.

For my small product offering thank you page (which is the download page), it took about 20 minutes, including the time to set up the scripts for the downloads.  Thats for both pages too, as I used the first page as a template for the second!

Dual Order Pages

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Because I am making all the products from this website available on a cd, that requires me to make dual order pages. The first one being the sales page where the items are listed & people decide if they want to order it or not. If they do, they get sent to the second one.  The second one being the one where customers are given the option to select either instant download or on a cd.

The option choice page for the small extra product offering package took me a 1/2 hour to create. Not real long, and not real difficult. Just had to set up 2 different paypal buttons (plus all the accompanying scripts, 2 different thank you pages, etc., which took another 1/2 hour to do).

The bonus, is that for the other pages like this that I need, I can basically just cut and paste and reuse the same page (AKA making your own template), only inserting the proper payment buttons, etc. You always need to be able to shortcut your work efforts like this! Any time you are able save time, that’s a good thing!

Small Extra Product offering (all ebay tools)

Monday, May 19th, 2008

When you use the peel away ads script, you have to make sure you have a decent discount or some cool offer underneath to utilize the full effect of having this installed on your site. I placed another product offering package underneath mine.

This is to have some other kind of variety on the site, to catch some additional sales, and to also show you what you can do with this script too. The extra offer for this contains all ebay tools, ebay software, ebay products, and everything related to ebay items. This small product offering “only” has 38 items included (!), which is really a lot, but when compared to the “main product” offered on this site, or the “ebook package” that is available, it truly IS a small extra product offering.

The cost to purchase it is minimal too, at just $5. It’s purposely set low. The theory behind this is that because of the low cost, it may generate a lot of sales. Plus, it helps that its a “general” market item (as opposed to a specific niche item, although I suppose “ebay” in itself could be considered a niche) wherein there are a lot of people interested in either learning how to sell on ebay, or are already selling on ebay, that could use some of these products that I have compiled into a package.

The sales page for this product offering took roughly an hour and a half to make. That doesn’t include setting up the peel away ad for it, or the scripts for the download, thank you pages, etc., that are connected to it.

If you’d like to see the script (and offer) in action, you can see it on this page: notification

Peel away Ads Script

Monday, May 19th, 2008

The coolest thing since popup ads, is the peelaway ads. These are those nifty things you see in the corner (usually the top right) of a webpage that looks like a page that is folded over (or falling in). It has just enough movement to catch your eye and be enticing to want to see whats underneath, without being annoying & intrusive like some pop up ads can be.

With the proper script, you can add this awesome feature to your own website. I have included it on this website. Took about 30 minutes to set it all up, including placing the script onto the various wepages within this site that I wanted them on.

This is another item that you will receive when you order the “ebook package” that this site offers!!

Protecting your Download & Thank You page Folders

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Even if you are using an IPN system to protect your digital products, you should also employ other safeguards as well.  Protecting your download & thank you page folders is as easy as password protecting them through your cpanel at your webhost.

If thats too difficult, or to inconvenient because of having to access it for the items inside (like when others order your products & have to download them & you can’t figure out how to write the proper codes inside of a script for them to be able to access it), or any one of a number of other reasons that make it unrealistic to actually password protect them, at a minimum, here’s an easy solution:  just place a blank index.html file inside those folders.  You don’t even need any words at all within it.  What this will do, is if someone types in via their browser bar the url to the folders where you don’t really want people snooping in, it simply displays a blank page.  They can’t see anything that is inside these folders.  Perhaps they will think its an error of some kind & just leave.

You’ve got time and money spent into making your website and all the contents within, so be sure to take the time to protect everything as well.  It’s not real hard protecting your download & thank you page folders, but it is a necessary step to insure your work is not for nothing.
